The Trifecta: A Whirlwind Through Rome, Florence & Venice

Italy has always tugged at my heart, but this time, with three iconic cities in one unforgettable itinerary—Rome, Florence, and Venice—it felt like the trip of a lifetime. With a blend of history, indulgence, and heartfelt moments, this journey was the perfect trifecta.

Four Nights in Rome: Rooftop Views, Ancient Marvels & Night Strolls

We landed in Rome with the buzz of anticipation—ready for espresso, cobbled streets, and centuries of art, architecture, and pasta. We checked into it perfectly located in the heart of the Eternal City. That first evening, we met our traveling friends at the rooftop bar, sipping cocktails as the sun dipped behind the Pantheon.

To kick things off, we hopped into a private golf cart tour—an absolute must for first-timers. With the breeze in our hair and cameras at the ready, we zipped past Rome’s greatest hits: the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia, and the glowing Piazza del Popolo. As the sky deepened into twilight, Rome came alive—every fountain lit, every statue gleaming. It was magic.

Dinner that night was al fresco under the stars, tucked into a cozy trattoria near our hotel. With laughter in the air and wine in hand, the night melted into the kind of memory you know you’ll treasure forever.

The Next Day: Ancient Wonders

We dove deep into Roman history with skip-the-line guided tours of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum. Standing where gladiators once fought and emperors once ruled was spine-tingling.

That afternoon: the Vatican. In just three hours, we saw enough masterpieces to last a lifetime. The Sistine Chapel stunned us into silence, and the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica left us in awe.

EG Tip: Always book skip-the-line access. It’s a game-changer.

Trastevere Vibes & Final Wanders

We spent our third day strolling to Trastevere—Rome’s effortlessly cool neighborhood—with cobbled alleys, buzzing piazzas, and the best lunch of our trip. We capped the day with shopping near Piazza Navona and sipped our final Roman cappuccino near the Trevi Fountain.

EG Pro Tip: When traveling with friends, make flexible, refundable reservations—plans shift, and that’s half the fun!

Three Nights in Florence: Renaissance Grandeur & Tuscan Charm

We boarded the fast train from Rome to Florence—so easy, so scenic, and so fun. After saying goodbye to our friends, we arrived in the city that always delivers.

We splurged on the elegant Palazzo Vecchietti, a Small Luxury Hotels member. Nestled in the historic center, this 16th-century palazzo was the perfect base—just steps from the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio.

Cathedrals, David & A Sky Full of Stars

We walked to Piazza del Duomo just as the afternoon light turned the cathedral’s marble pink and gold. Florence has a way of slowing time. The next day, we joined a guided walking tour that included the Accademia (hello, David!), the Duomo, and all the tucked-away gems that make Florence special. Seeing Michelangelo’s David in person never gets old.

Uffizi, Shopping & A Touch of Tuscany

We explored the Uffizi, wandered the Oltrarno, and even made it out to Fiesole for breathtaking views. And of course—shopping. From artisan leather in Santa Croce to high fashion on Via Tornabuoni, Florence had us swooning.

One afternoon, we ventured to The Mall Firenze, Tuscany’s luxury outlet haven. Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo—need I say more? Afterward, we toasted the day with Chianti and a sunset over the Arno.

Four Nights in Venice: Canals, Gondolas & Dreamlike Days

There’s nothing like arriving in Venice by boat. The domes, the bells, the shimmer of the lagoon—it took our breath away. We checked into the legendary Gritti Palace on the Grand Canal and settled into the view like it was our job.

We wandered alleys, crossed bridges, and reveled in the mystery of getting wonderfully lost in Venice. One night we did a bar-hopping “bacaro” crawl and tasted cicchetti like locals.

Exploring the Heart of Venice

Our local guide led us on a full-day walking tour that checked all the boxes: Rialto Market, gondola ride, Doge’s Palace, and the glowing gold interior of St. Mark’s Basilica. Venice delivered on every level.

Island Escape: Murano & Burano

We took a private boat to Murano to watch glassmakers create art with fire, and then to Burano, where rainbow-hued houses and lace-making traditions charmed us endlessly. A highlight of the entire trip.

One Last Taste of Venice

We closed our stay with a food walking tour—sampling seafood, sipping wine, and finishing with gelato. Then, a romantic gondola ride. That final evening, we lingered by the water, soaking in the magic one last time.

Final Thoughts: Italy, You Were Everything

After one last gaze out the hotel window, we took the ferry to the airport. And just like that, we were on our way home, hearts full and suitcases (slightly) heavier.

Every moment of this trip felt like a living postcard. It reminded me why Italy always calls me back—it’s not just the monuments or the meals. It’s the way beauty and culture are baked into everyday life.

Rome, Florence, Venice—thank you. We’ll be back.
