The Best Trips Don’t Start With a Destination

Hi, I’m Susan Badger, Founder & CEO of Elite Globetrotters.

After traveling to more than 150 countries and helping clients plan journeys around the world, I’ve learned something important:

The best trips don’t start with a destination. They start with understanding the traveler.

When someone contacts Elite Globetrotters, one of the first questions they often ask is:

“Can you help us find a hotel in Lisbon?”

Of course we can.

But that’s not where we begin.

The best journeys don’t start with a hotel, a cruise, or an airline ticket. They start with understanding the people taking the trip.

Before I recommend a single destination or itinerary, I want to know who you are.

Where did you grow up? What stage of life are you in? Have you traveled the world or is this your first overseas adventure? Are you celebrating a milestone, reconnecting as a couple, traveling with grandchildren, or finally taking that dream vacation you’ve talked about for years?

Just as important, I want to know how you like to travel.

Do you love every minute planned, or do you prefer afternoons with no agenda? Are you a foodie searching for Michelin-starred restaurants, or would you rather discover a neighborhood café where the locals gather? Do you enjoy museums, hiking, beaches, history, shopping, wine tasting, or simply relaxing by the pool with a great book?

Those answers shape every recommendation we make.

At Elite Globetrotters, we don’t simply build itineraries.

We design experiences.

That may mean arranging a private airport transfer so your vacation begins the moment you land. It could be having champagne or a welcome gift waiting in your room, securing a special suite, booking a private guide who matches your interests, or intentionally leaving free time so you can slow down and enjoy the destination instead of rushing from one attraction to the next.

The itinerary you receive is only the visible result of dozens—sometimes hundreds—of thoughtful decisions made specifically for you.

Our relationship doesn’t end when your plane takes off.

Throughout your trip, we stay in touch to make sure everything is running smoothly. If a flight is delayed, a tour is canceled, weather changes your plans, or you simply need another dinner recommendation, we’re already working behind the scenes to help keep your vacation on track.

Travel is constantly changing.

Hotels renovate. Cruise lines launch new ships. Restaurants earn Michelin stars. Destinations evolve. Airline schedules change.

No travel advisor can personally experience everything.

That’s why the best advisors never stop learning. We attend industry conferences, visit destinations, tour hotels, sail new ships, meet with tourism partners, read reviews, exchange ideas with trusted colleagues, and share firsthand experiences. Collaboration makes us better advisors, and ultimately gives our clients better vacations.

People sometimes ask if I have favorite hotels, cruise lines, or airlines.

Absolutely.

But that doesn’t mean they’re the right choice for every traveler.

Our job isn’t to sell our favorite experiences. Our job is to discover yours.

Every client deserves recommendations based on their travel style, budget, priorities, and dreams—not ours.

After traveling to more than 150 countries and experiencing luxury hotels, cruises, private tours, and unique cultural experiences around the world, I’ve learned one important lesson:

The most memorable trips aren’t defined by the five-star hotel or the business-class seat.

They’re defined by the moments.

Watching your grandchildren experience another culture for the first time.

Celebrating an anniversary overlooking the Mediterranean.

Walking through ancient streets with someone you love.

Laughing over an unforgettable meal you’ll talk about for years.

Those are the memories that last.

At Elite Globetrotters, we believe travel is deeply personal. Every itinerary begins with a conversation, grows through a relationship, and becomes a journey designed around you—not simply a destination on a map.

Because we’re not just planning vacations.

We’re helping create some of life’s greatest memories.
